In this series of small water colors I set about creating a series of works that have the same rules for every piece (two different colors of red, two different sections on the paper, no mixing, same basic outline of a form). However, in the actual painting of the work it came out different every day. Some of the sections were finished in 3 hours, sometimes I would return after 3 weeks. I set out parameters and stuck to that to be intuitive inside that structure. Unlike my paintings in acrylic on canvas there is very little room to edit due to the nature of water color. I am very interested in this way of working intuitively in a stream of consciousness manner, within an exacting plan. The shape is based on a boulder like land-form in the east Bronx that appears to have been present for at least 20 000 years.
